A review of the annual Gathering at willow Creek Ranch:
On June 22nd 200 people gathered at the 130 acre Willow Creek Ranch for a fun-filled weekend of mountain air, hunting, fishing and patriotism, all in the name of the Word of Honor Fund. People came from both coasts and all parts in between, to break their share of 4000 clays and slay a few trout on the pristine Willow Creek.
It seems like only yesterday when Ron Lopez piped in the Mountain Home Air Force Color Guard to present the colors for the National Anthem. The intimate event was capped at 200 donors, volunteers and military families gathered to raise money for the WOHF.
If you have never been one of the lucky few to venture onto the Willow Creek Ranch and fish the water for which it is named, you have been missing one of the most beautiful fly fishing streams in the country. More than one trophy-sized rainbow was pulled out of the water. It seemed only fitting since a custom fishing pole by Lawrence Brown was awarded at the silent auction. Also auctioned off were several guns and hunting equipment and Seal 1 products.
Fly fishing, along with a skeet shooting competition was only part of the fun. There were also several exhibitions including a show by Jon Kruger, a world champion and the first inductee into the Sporting Clays Hall of Fame. Very few people can shoot from the hip with the success Jon brings on a regular basis. Not to be outdone, Houston Shaw, a world champion in his own right, put on his own cowboy action pistol demonstration.
Words can't describe the small town, country vibe made possible by a collection of special people in beautiful Idaho, USA.
Before long the magical weekend was gone, thousands of dollars were raised for the children of fallen heroes and calls were going out, asking when reservations would be accepted for next year's event.
As word travels, this event will grow in stature. However, it will never grow in size. Space will always be limited to no more than 200 people. Please, keep an eye on your in-box for next year's invitation. The event is sure to sell out fast.
Our Mission Statement
